Teaching philosophy

I enjoy sharing my passion for performing with students of all ages - from beginners to professionals. It is important for me to understand each student and their unique needs, as well as get to know them personally as best as possible. To me, this is the foundation for building a successful teacher-student relationship.

My goal as a teacher is to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which students can develop their own voice and advance their abilities.

Fundamentals

I believe that great set up and posture are essential to achieving ease of playing. This is why I take the proper time to ensure each student feels comfortable on the instrument and plays without tension. I believe that each student needs to learn the physics behind the sound in order to sound their best. I also spend time showing and practicing essential stretches and excercises that are performed before and after practice.

Repertoire

Repertoire depends largely on the level and needs of the student. Every lesson, much like every practice session, starts with basics (scales, arpeggios, double stops), followed by an etude and solo repertoire.

I believe that each student should learn the major Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary repertoire. I tailor the trajectory of each student’s progress based on their needs and level.

Furthermore, as a professional orchestral musician I have an extensive knowledge of the orchestral repertoire and enjoy very much working on excerpts and helping students and professionals alike prepare for orchestral auditions.

Listening

I encourage and guide my students to discover recordings of the works they may be working on, or the composers and periods they are studying. I believe that the ear of musicians is seasoned by critically listening to live and recorded music as much as possible. Moreover, I guide my students in how to record and listen back to their own recordings in order to improve their own playing.

In the end, I am committed to tailoring the teaching process based on the level of the student or professional I am working with. Whether you are looking to start, improve, or win that next orchestral audition, I am eager to show you the tools and help you get there.
